Jendai Frazer’s Deceptions, Evasions & Lies @ University of Washington by Sophia Tesfamariam

When I heard that US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs was going to speak on 30 May 2008 at the University of Washington, I was hoping that Eritreans, Ethiopians, Somalis and others who have been negatively affected by US Policy for Africa could attend. Many did and I have been reading their varied reports and watching the video on youtube. Despite the deaths and destructions her faulty intelligence and analysis have caused in Africa, she admitted to no mistakes and maintained her arrogant and unrepentant stance. The same rehearsed spill she presents in Washington, DC was repeated in Washington State.
In my opinion this event exposed her irrational and myopic thinking, as well as her arrogance and condescending impressions of Africa and its people. This time the people questioning her were not policymakers who are too removed from Africa to give a hoot, they were the stakeholders- those whose fellow countrymen, women and children were being affected by the racist and incoherent policy she promotes as being pro-Africa.

There is no one that has not observed and been surprised with the Djiboutian government’s totally unwarranted recent anti-Eritrea hostile campaigns.
It has also been making continued futile attempts to drag the Government of Eritrea into its concocted animosity.
As the Eritrean government has repeatedly asserted, although it is closely and patiently following up the developments and its sponsors, it hereby reiterates that it would under no circumstances get involved in an invitation of squabbles and acts of hostility designed to undermine good-neighborliness.

Eritreans at home and in the Diaspora are gearing up to celebrate their most precious day which is also a day of inspiration to many people in the Horn and beyond, currently struggling to liberate themselves from various forms of oppression and exploitation. For that, as much as we want to share our joys, achievements and challenges with the peoples who aspire for liberation and freedom, it is also incumbent upon those who follow the moves of our detractors to express their concerns in the clearest form possible.

I read Ban Ki Moon’s 8 April 2008 “Special Report of the Secretary General on the United Nation’s Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE)” to the Security Council and wondered why the man was wasting valuable time and energy on a dead and moot issue when there are bigger and more serious issues that warrant immediate attention.

The Embassy of Eritrea is dismayed with the public Statements made on 11 March 2008 by Jendayi Frazer, US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, during the Senate Hearing “Evaluating U.S. Policy Objectives and Options on the Horn of Africa”, held under the auspices of Senator Russ Feingold and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
his latest act is in continuation of Frazer’s two years long, unwarranted defamation and vilification campaigns against the Government of Eritrea. Frazer’s personal and vindictive crusade is partly explained by a string of failures in her misguided policies in the region, her unsuccessful bid to meddle in the legal process and alter the final and binding Award of the
independent Eritrea Ethiopia Boundary Commission (EEBC), as well as, her obsessive intentions to divert attention from, and cover up, Ethiopia’s gross violations of international law.
Suffice it to mention two of her diplomatic faux pas:
1. In 2006 Frazer visited Badme, a sovereign Eritrean territory under Ethiopian occupation
without Eritrea’s permission
2. Frazer intervened on behalf of Ethiopia to overturn the Eritrea Ethiopia Boundary Commission’s Final and Binding Delimitation Decision
In addition, US media reported that Frazer held a meeting on14 January 2008 with members ofthe Eritrean “opposition coalition’’, an assortment of subversive groups sponsored and trainedby the Ethiopian regime with the avowed aim of “violently overthrowing” the Government of Eritrea. Key members of the coalition include the Afghan trained terrorist outfits, the Eritrean Islamic Jihad Movement (EIJM) and the Eritrean Islamic Islah Movement (EIIM), which
contradict and compromise the US Administration’s stated goals in its “global war on terror”.
The Embassy of Eritrea wishes to underline that Frazer’s strident testimony does not only fail to meet the minimum standards of objectivity and credibility that her high office demands but it will also not advance the cause of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa or serve US longterm interests in the region.

Eritrea says doesn’t want new war with Ethiopia
UNITED NATIONS, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Eritrea does not want another war with Ethiopia and seeks good relations with its neighbor, provided Addis Ababa withdraws from Eritrean territory, Eritrea’s U.N. ambassador said on Friday.
