European Union to open Mali migration centre

without comments

The European Union plans to open an immigration centre in Mali to help cut down migration. The centre, the first immigration centre outside Europe, will help people find work in Europe. Thousands of young West Africans try to make it into Europe each year and many die on the way. Just last week the Spanish coastguards rescued a group of 230 young Africans - the largest single boatload of immigrants to reach Spain. Mali was chosen because the West African nation is at the centre of well established migration routes. Many EU nations are tightening entry restrictions on non-EU nationals.

Albinos being murdered in Burundi & Tanzania for body parts

without comments

Albinos in Burundi are living in fear of being attacked and killed for their body parts. Some have fled their homes and sought police protection. Beliefs that the body parts of albinos can make a person rich are believed to be fuelling the murders. A BBC investigation has shown that Albino body parts are in demand in neighbouring Tanzania where at least 26 Albinos have been killed. A girl was hacked to death in August and six people have since been arrested. Four people in Burundi are now under police protection.
