The People’s Progressive Party is like the soul of the Guyanese people
we stole this classic from the daily fishwrapper note that in the first sentence they acknowledge that Bharrat Jagdeo is a dictator
EVEN if the opposition forms a united front as the one prescribed by F. Kissoon (anti-dictatorial) they cannot defeat the PPP in any free and fair election.
It doesn’t matter what they do or say, the PPP and Dr. Jagan will remain to be the voice of the Guyanese people. It is like the soul nothing can destroy it.
The mighty British Empire and the powerful USA tried to destroy The PPP and Dr. Jagan but they were unsuccessful. Today they are the ones that are giving it the support they denied it when it was in power in the fifties and early sixties.
The PNC for 28 years did everything in its power to destroy it but in the end it emerged as the greatest fighting force in Guyana and the Caribbean. Today there is not a second to it in Guyana and the Caribbean and is recognised as one of the greatest in the world.
The PPP was manifested from the truth. From the ashes of the sufferings of the working class the PPP was manifested and that cannot be destroyed.
According to the Aquarian Gospel God and man were one in the beginning but through carnal thoughts, words and deeds man tore himself away from God; debased himself.
At first there was only the PPP but Burnham debased himself from the PPP and formed the PNC. As we all know he was no good leader and used all the evil ways to stay in power. The Governor Sir Alfred Savage in September 1953 said: “Burnham whose popularity is said to be waning in Georgetown is lazy, acid and flippant.” The British described him as ‘an opportunist, racist and a demagogue, intent only on personal power.”
If a person is not good how can he make good followers?
The UF was created to help to defeat the PPP and after some time when its dirty work was finished its leader Mr. D’Aguiar quit the party.
Many Members of the WPA were once members of the PPP but like Burnham they thought they could do better.
Today a new party (AFC) has emerged and his supporters thought that it was the saviour. It got a few seats in parliament and that was it. Like all the other parties which were created to fight the PPP, the AFC is still struggling to maintain itself as a party, making unreasonable comments now and then.
The leaders of the AFC are men who do not know what they believe in and cannot differentiate between good and bad.
Mr. Ramjattan was a member of the PPP since he was a kid. The constitution of the party is modified and changed to suit the changing world.
Mr. Ramjattan, I am sure was present at the conferences of the PPP and helped to make the changes. Today the same constitution that he never opposed and helped to build he finds it unconstitutional and the party undemocratic.
As we all know man is not perfect; so if Mr. Ramjattan cannot solve his differences with the organization which he helped to build how he can solve the problems of a country.
Mr. Trotman joined the PNC when it was out of power. The whole world knew that the PNC did all the wrong things to hold on to power and yet he went and joined that party.
Was Mr. Trotman ignorant of the truth that he cannot distinguish the right from the wrong?
These two men comes from two different schools of thought; one cannot abide with the same law that he helped to shape and the other cannot see the right from the wrong, how can they ever govern a country?
At the eleventh congress at Tain government school Dr. Jagan said that the PPP has now become a household name; he did not say that Jagan had become a household name. The Guyanese people know the PPP party and anyone that decides to leave it will not carry much support with them.
Many like Chandisingh, Harry Lall, Vincent Teekah, and the Majeeds etc left and they did not carry any support with them. The last election Mr. Ramjattan did not carry much of the PPP votes with him, most of the AFC votes were from the PNC.
This shows that unlike the PPP, people vote for the other parties according to their leaders.
So it doesn’t matter who is the presidential candidate the people will vote for the PPP because the party stood behind them in good and bad times. They know what the party did for them and what it is doing.
Many critics claim that the Guyanese people were better off during colonial times. That colonial time was between 1957 to 1964 when the PPP was in office. When the PPP took over the government the Guyana dollar was $1.75 to the $US and by 1964 it was $1.08 to the $US.
What the PPP built in the seven years it took the PNC twenty eight years to destroy.
Although the US and the British government boycotted the young government Guyana was bracketed with the most developing countries.
The PNC at that time said that the PPP was “rice government” because it was opening lands for agriculture especially rice. During the PNC reign not only rice was in short supply but food was scarce. When the PNC was given power by the US and the British they abandoned the development programs of the PPP and set out to destroy the country. In 28 years the PNC brought Guyana from a food basket of the Caribbean to a begging nation.
When the PPP took over the government in 1992 the country was bankrupt, the Bank of Guyana was $400M in the red, no agency was properly run, a run down economy, debt payment was 94% of the revenue and corruption was at all level. Today there is vast improvement in every sector of the country and the debt payment has reduced from 94% to 4%.
Can any of the critics name one government in the world that has done so much for its people and country with no money in such a short time.
Dr. Jagan on the eve of the 1964 election at a meeting at Bath settlement said that “if Burnham is to win this election a time will come when the broken rice that you feed your fowls and ducks you will not even get that to eat.” All those who lived through the PNC era know how visionary that statement was and how people had to struggle to survive.
Many leaders of the PNC were associated with some form of criminal activities when they were in power. One of them was accused of rape and had to leave Parliament for some time. One of them was associated with the death of Teekah and don’t forget the bullets that that shot Dr. Joshua Ramsammy.
Today the critics are going to the extreme trying to prove that the PPP is incompetent, corrupt, undemocratic, etc.
Are they succeeding? No.
Why? Because their stories are based on gossip and not on facts.
F. Kissoon writing in one of his articles when the PPP was in opposition said that the PPP is the only Marxist party in the world that has it accounts straight. We all know by now how Freddie changes his stories.
To defeat the PPP there will have to be a better party and some one better than Dr. Jagan. The person to do that hasn’t been born as yet and his mother has died already.
If a person like that is to be born then he will be a supporter of the PPP.
The opposition is in disarray, they cannot come together because they all come from different schools of thought. They cannot get what they want so they are making problems for the good country so it can look ugly.
