Guyana crime update : eight men shot dead & set on fire

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Eight men have been found shot dead and then set on fire in a mining camp in Guyana.

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds said the victims all worked at a gold and diamond mining camp in the southeastern part of this South American nation.

The camp’s owner, George Arokium, discovered the bodies yesterday afternoon and his brother and 29-year-old son were among the victims

Authorities did not give a possible motive, but suspect the men were killed in the last 24 hours. Earlier yesterday, police said they charged a 20-year-old and 14-year-old in a January massacre of 11 people in Lusignan on Guyana’s coast.

Another 12 were killed in February in the mining town of Bartica, including three police officers and five civilians sleeping in hammocks.
