The list of shady Guyana govt deals is long
letter from Kaieteur News
Dear Editor,
Stabroek News carried a letter titled “the PNCR should produce evidence on corruption.”
Is the writer, Jean Ramroop, for real? The list of shady deals is long (corruption), and it has either been covered up or not given credible answers. Corruption is multi-faceted.
Does Jean Ramroop know that state corruption cannot be narrowly defined? Any act by Government that is morally tainted or illegal is corruption. Is she aware of:
The many road contracts that were clearly excessive based on the production. Kaieteur News, on its front page this week, carried a photograph of the road at De Hoop, Mahaica, completed less than a year ago. This is one example – one of many.
The illegal equipment held by the ‘Good Hope Trio.’ When will we be told how such equipment came into the country? Was it brought in for the state? Is this not corruption?
The law book printing: no tender process, excessive costs.
All of the Youth Projects: the contractors were all excessive. Result: the projects, if subject to any independent survey, would show how much was floated.
The floating wharf: has the contractor been since surcharged? Is this not therefore a corrupt transaction?
In one case, a man openly states he is conducting illegal activities with not a sniff from the police or the then Minister of Home Affairs. Is this not corruption?
A man kills a food vendor but has his firearm calibre upgraded: no arrest. Is this not corruption?
Winston Murray is correct.
The starving of the City Council and the Critchlow Labour College — all morally indefensible — is yet another form of corruption.
Extra-judicial killing: Is this not corruption?
The absolute control of radio and the treatment of SN: this is wrong and is inappropriate. I define this as corruption.
Government using NIS and other funds to build a hotel - buttress businesses of their supporters and friends, with no openness. Is this not corruption?
Accepting payment from GCX Energy of $9 million to pay for the legal battle with Suriname is illegal and is corruption.
The Bernard Kerik episode was to provide professional cover for most of the security sand-dancing.
The failure to use proper tender procedures for large purchases of so many items: Is this not corruption?
What does the present winner-take-all policy really mean in our situation? Is this not the breeding ground for corruption?
The stone scam.
How is the money from the Lotto used? Is it within the boundary of propriety?
The visa scam - corruption takes several forms.
The Essequibo Stone Road issue is still stinking.
The $50 milliom wildlife fraud.
The old age pension debacle.
It is known that most of the contractors who were awarded contracts whereas their performances were poor are clearly linked to the PPP.
A koker collapses on the East Coast one month after it was completed and handed over, no one is surcharged or prosecuted.
The multi-million dollar wharf at Charity – same story. The Mon Repos sea defence issue.
Village road at first Street Grove – same story.
The law books printing scandal - $222 million.
The capricious granting of firearm licences.
The PNCR, UF, ROAR, AFC, ACDA and PAM need to come together and do more to expose this continuing corruption.
