Latin Radical: Venezuela’s evolving political system

without comments

Fred Fuentes in Caracas reports that while the recent makeover of the PSUV (The United Socialist Party of Venezuela) is straining the political system, President Chavez’ vision for Venezuela and Bolivarianism has not been compromised, and the empowering of the grass roots could mean that the corruption and bureaucratism that had become entrenched over the decades of the last century may be challenged. Meanwhile, external pressures to break down the will of the Venezuelan program for change are being resisted. This includes the challenge of Exxon Mobil, and the aggressive attitude of the neighbouring Columbian government - not to mention the glowering resentments of Washington.

Race-based Politics + Limited Economic Freedom + Oil = Disaster - Peter R. Ramsaroop

without comments

If Guyana’s oil reserves are proven and then controlled by our government, it could spell disaster for our country. With the nature of our current politics we cannot allow simultaneous control of both political and economic power. We may be able to foster long-term prosperity and peace if we can somewhat separate political favour from economic opportunity. We have researched and written about democratising Guyana’s natural resources extracted from public property. This means that oil royalties would be dispersed evenly amongst our citizens. The government would have to accountably tax us in order to fund its operations. To date our organization Vision Guyana is the first and so far the only organization to adopt this as part of their vision of a prosperous future for Guyana.

Clement Rohee changes his tune one more time

without comments

clement roheelast week the minister of home affairs was convinced that the killers of Lusignan and Bartica were thrill killers. yesterday he rose to address Parliament and if the Guyana Chronicle is to be believed he’s singing a new tune like his friends cocaine roger khan and peter morgan

He said the latter type of crimes has nothing to do with poverty and these are certainly no ordinary criminals who, as some claim, have ‘just a cause’.
“It would be incorrect and absurd to claim that criminal gangs influenced and indoctrinated with certain political motives have a cause that grew out of poverty. Actually, it grew out of a peculiar political culture that has been with us for sometime.”
