Guyana Police investigating - Allen Fraser fire, Pamela McCarroll death at Tutuwau Falls, Sherwin Jensen murder, Omar Sheriff & Toolsie Persaud robbery

Investigations are being conducted into a fire, the origin of which is yet to be determined, that completely destroyed the dwelling house of Allan Fraser of South Amelia’s Ward, Linden. The incident occurred about 0230h. today Monday March 03, 2008.

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Scottish National Pamela McCarroll, 18 years, which occurred at about 1400h. yesterday at the Tutuwau Falls, South Central Rupununi.

Investigations so far revealed that Pamela McCarroll, who is a volunteer with Project Trust and attached to the St. Ignatius Secondary School, Lethem, went sightseeing at the Falls in the company of a friend. It is reported that she was rock climbing in the area when she fell and sustained injuries. She was subsequently pronounced dead by medical personnel from the Lethem Regional Hospital.

The police are investigating the murder of Sherwin Jansen, 27 years of Second Street, Albert town, which occurred about 0900h. today at Durban Street, Lodge.

Investigations revealed that Sherwin Jansen, who is a deportee, was involved in an argument over a money transaction with a man who is also a deportee during which he was stabbed about his body.

He was taken to the GPHC by public spirited persons where he was pronounced DOA.

The suspect has not yet been arrested.

About 1100h. today businessman Omar Sheriff of Station Street, Kitty, was attacked and robbed of a sum of about $9M by a man who was armed with a handgun at Church Street, Georgetown.

Investigations revealed that Omar Sheriff had earlier withdrawn the money from various banks in the city and had gone to a business place in Church Street to do business. As he exited his motor vehicle he was held at gunpoint by the armed man who took away the bag with the cash and escaped on a waiting motor cycle.

Omar Sheriff discharged several rounds from his licenced firearm at the fleeing bandits who managed to escape.

As investigations continue into the armed robbery committed on Toolsie Persaud Ltd. at Lombard Street on Saturday last, both Kevin Dillon who was fatally shot during an armed confrontation with the police and his accomplice who is in police custody have been identified by one of the victims as being the men who perpetrated the robbery.

They have also been identified as being involved in the armed robbery of a businessman recently at Middleton Street, Campbellville, Georgetown.
