PRESS RELEASE
The Guyana Police Force wishes to express its concern over the attitude of some members of the public as it relates to complaints involving police ranks.
Its every effort at seizing upon unlawful practices and corrupt actions of members of the Force is constantly being frustrated by members of the public who, having reported the matters, subsequently either refuse to give statements or refuse to give evidence in court or in disciplinary matters.
The most recent is the case of corrupt transaction reported by Mr. Fizal Ali which was widely publicised against Detective Lance Corporal 17519 Kitt, Constable 19558 Mitchell and Constable 19498 Alleyne who were charged criminally with corrupt transaction by agent contrary to Section 105 (2) (a) of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act Ch. 8:02 and placed before the Magistrate Court.
At the first hearing of the matter Mr. Fizal Ali said under oath that he was not prepared to offer any evidence against the ranks mentioned. The Magistrate then proceeded to dismiss the case.
Such action by members of the public could never assist the Force to take a grip of its errant members.
The Guyana Police Force wishes to call on all members of the public to report matters involving police corruption and to assure the public that these matters will be investigated and appropriate action taken in every instance.
