News Editors,

PRESS RELEASE

The Guyana Police Force wishes to express dismay at the apparent failure of some persons to comprehend its role in relation to the current operations at Buxton.

The Force Headquarters Desk was set up to receive reports concerning property, including crops, which may have suffered damage during the current operations or land clearing exercises in Buxton and its backlands and to assess these reports in order to provide a basis for an appropriate response by those concerned.

In the past the Police Force has been involved in assessing collateral damage which may occur during operations.

In relation to reports about crops damaged during land clearing, the assessment would have been forwarded to Government in order to provide a basis upon which to offer compensation.

The Force wishes to remind the public that even in civil matters members of the Force have often been asked to assess damages and give evidence of same in court.

It is hoped that this information dispels misconceptions and rumours that the Force is handling compensation or issues relating generally to land.
