Eric W. Hall - crazy Marine Iraqi veteran ‘lost’ in the woods
CHARLOTTE COUNTY - Relatives think wounded Iraq war veteran Eric W. Hall, missing for a week, may be wandering in the woods, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and under the impression that he is still fighting in Iraq.Family and friends who spent Saturday searching for Hall fear the 24-year-old is covering his tracks, thinking he is in a war zone.On Saturday, Hall’s family printed fliers, drove around and talked to anyone who may have seen him.
“He’s a Marine,” said Birgle, who is married to Hall’s cousin. “He knows how to survive off the land and find food. We don’t feel he is dead. We want him back with us.”
On Friday, thinking that Hall will respond to military authority, 10 former Marines joined Hall’s brother, Justin Hall, who is in the Navy, and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in the search.
Hall disappeared from another cousin’s Deep Creek home Feb. 3. He had recently stopped taking his pain medication for a leg injury suffered in Fallujah, Iraq, three years ago when an explosive device nearly blew off his leg.
He has pins, rods and plates in his leg, family said. Hall also walks with a limp.
Since his injury, Hall has been fighting with the military for $4,700 in vacation pay. The Department of Veterans Affairs rated Hall as partially disabled, which limited him to $700 a month instead of the $2,500 in full disability pay.

Actually rookie, my first time in combat was in a little place called Mogadishu.
After that, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Point is, these “kids” should expect to get into some potentially troubling situations, and if there is any question about being mature enough to handle it, they should stay at home.
I apologize if my earlier comments seemed insincere, but it seems that either the newer generation going into combat is either poorly trained or just not equipped mentally to handle it.

Actually Buster, The title of the main post called him crazy, which is indeed true, even if the term commonly used isn’t actually the word crazy.
I just 2nd’d the opinion that he was crazy, which isn’t entirely a bad thing, anyone in our position who will willingly put our lives in imminent danger is not ‘wrapped too tight’.
Also, post#6 (which was yours) is the first insult thrown.
It’s also obvious by not only your grammer, but you language that I am either dealing with a child, or an imbecile.
I just learned last night that they did indeed find his body which is unfortunate. It’s always sad to lose a fellow soldier, but it happens.
My father died in combat in the 80’s, and I lost my brother last year in Iraq while he was serving with my unit.
It will happen alot more due to mental illness as long as the US keeps pushing these kids into combat with little preparation to deal with the stress.
I’m not trying to downplay the loss of Eric’s life, but you need to wake up and actually see how common this type of thing is.
We have soldiers coming home that just can’t readjust to civilian life, some of us, such as myself, will never adjust. In those cases it just makes more sense for us to stay in the military and continue to do our job, no matter what.
It’s sacrifices made by our brothers-in-arms that allow people like you to have the liberties you currently possess.
As for the memorial on Monday, I will have someone there, but I will be arriving back in Iraq to do my job.
If you would like to pick up again on this pointless debate, I will be sure to give you a way to contact me directly so that you won’t have to make an ass of yourself in public.

Cpl. Eric Hall was like a brother to me and I find it hard to believe that a so called “veteran” could write things like some of you all have posted. Knowing Eric and his family was a blessing and I consider myself lucky to have been able to call myself his friend. I understand that the Marine Corps is a job, but a very hard one. Some of you should bite your tongue, keep the nonsense to yourselves and let this TRUE AMERICAN HERO rest in the way he deserves!
