Consequent upon allegations being made by family members that Ramesh Sawh called ‘Kenny’ of Logwood, Enmore was beaten by the police while in custody at the Enmore Police Outpost, the Guyana Police Force launched an investigation through its Office of Professional Responsibility.The investigations have found no evidence to substantiate the allegations made and which are being refuted by the Police Force.

This is supported by the results of a Post Mortem Examination that was performed today on the body of Ramesh Sawh by Dr. Nehaul Singh at the GPHC mortuary, where the cause of death was given as ‘asphyxiation due to compression in the neck due to hanging; no signs of beating’.

The police are calling on members of the public who may have witnessed any beating or any action by the police not in keeping with the ethics of the profession to give a statement to the Police Office of Professional Responsibility, Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.

The body of Ramesh Sawh was found hanging by his jersey in the lock ups at Enmore Police Outpost on Thursday January 17, 2008. He had been in police custody pending investigations into a report of larceny of a motor vehicle battery.

Sawh was before the Cove and John Court on a charge of break and enter and larceny which was still being heard. He had been previously charged with several other matters that had been completed before the Courts which include possession of narcotics, threatening behaviour and burglary.

Investigations into an armed robbery committed on businessman Gladwyn Lall at Stanleytown, WBD, on Friday January 18, 2008 have led to the arrest of five men and the seizure of a boat and engine at River View, Ruimveldt, on Saturday January 19, 2008.

The men are in police custody assisting with the investigations.

The police are investigating the murder of Clement Obermuller, a 26 years old miner of Third Avenue , Bartica which occurred about 0420h. yesterday Sunday January 20, 2008 at Karibisee Hill, Bartica.

Investigations revealed that Obermuller was among a group of persons partying when an argument developed between himself and another man over a woman. During the argument he was stabbed to his chest and pronounced DOA at the Bartica Hospital .

The suspect and the knife believed to have been used are in police custody.

The police are investigating the death of Elvis Daniels, a 37 years old saw operator, whose body was found about 0330h. yesterday in the Kairuni area, Linden/Soesdyke Highway , with head injuries.

The body is at the Wismar Hospital mortuary awaiting a PME.

About 2015h. last night Sunday January 20, 2008 four men armed with handguns attacked and robbed Hemraj Hoolasie 44 years, at his home at No. 64 Village, Corentyne.

Investigations revealed that Hemraj Hoolasie along with Shardawattie Hoolasie and Devi Janack were at home when the men entered through an open door and held them at gunpoint. The armed men then ransacked the house and took away a quantity of jewellery valued at $1.3 million along with $60,000.00 cash and escaped.
