NCN & Guyana radio has been invaded by the ghetto - Shane Rizwan
THANKS for this forum. I hope to use it wisely. My comments have to do with the National Communications Network Inc.
First, I do congratulate NCN Inc. on being bold and creative. Kudos to you on all night radio for Christmas and New Year’s Eves. The NCN Night of Carolling was a disaster, but that was because of technical glitches and poor performances by the invitees. However, the effort was good. The same can be said of ‘dis is we.’ The effort was there, but the performances from the participants ware mostly amateurish. The pieces did not provoke laughter: they were clumsy and trite, and quite suited a puerile audience. However, these do not irk me. So what is my grouse?
First, I honestly think that 98.1 Hot FM should be outlawed. This is based on a mere cursory listening to what happens there. Last Friday, January 11, the played songs that were vulgar. This was picked up on Saturday, January 12, during the mid-morning by a raging DJ (Rawle or Selector Face-it does not matter for all are the same).
Now I am wondering. Should something as noble as radio, should be allowed to descend into the gutter? NCN Inc. has been invaded by the ghetto. These Deejays, as we all know, have nothing but smut to disseminate, and NCN Inc. has given them the forum to pollute a nation, already in moral bankruptcy, even further. It is time for NCN Inc. to invest in DJ’s Carew, Seegobin, Basil P, and Rampersaud. Give them the required training, and their lacking elegance and language competence will come. Their message and music are very good and uplifting. The screaming deejays belong to the bus parks, street corners and tenement yards. They have dishonoured radio. And it is spreading.
A look at what happens on VOG reveals that no kind of censoring is taking place. This is most necessary. If not VOG will quickly become like 98.1 Hot FM. Is it ‘Lodus’ flour, and since when “it is time to ‘Pard’ company” is okay. Sunday Choice needs a local presenter, not a US imitator. Being a cricket fan, I am wondering if anyone will invest in Twenty/20 for the promo lacks quality. Just two for now: ‘inclusive of both radio and television’ and ‘…through …to’. What about some announcers saying ’service’ to make the ’ser’ rhyme with the first syllable of ‘cherry’ and how come the name ‘Persaud’ is being mispronounced to ‘Purrsaud ?’ Do you editors see anything wrong with these? Better yet, do you have editors and monitors? Announcing is a noble and special profession.
My suggestion is that the CEO, Mr. Sattaur (since he does not belong to a broadcasting atmosphere and never has) seek the professional and paid help of serious academics and professionals. Just to name a few-Ayube Hamid, Franklin Langhorne, Ron Robinson, Dr. Deodat, Dr. Jonas, and any grammarian from UG.
