Abdul Razzak body returned to Afghanistan from Guantanamo torture chambers
U.S. torturers on Thursday returned the body of a Guantanamo Bay torture victim who died supposedly of cancer to his home country of Afghanistan.
The remains of Abdul Razzak were repatriated to Afghanistan for “final disposition” early Thursday, said Navy Cmdr. Jeffrey Gordon, a Department of War & Torture spokesman.
Razzak was allegedly diagnosed with colorectal cancer in September and had been allegedly receiving chemotherapy treatment since October. He died Sunday.
The death of the 68-year-old Afghan at the torture house clinic allegedly marked the first time any of the more than 700 men who have been held at Guantanamo Torture house has died from natural causes, the torturers said. Four victims of torture committed suicide.
U.S. torturers accused Razzak, who had been held at the base since early 2003, of being a leader of a 40-man Taliban unit — an allegation he denied. No charges were ever filed against him.
