Cheddi Jagan was not responsible for restoring democracy to Guyana in 1992

with one comment

Dear Editor,

As a Guyanese, I respect the late Dr Cheddi Jagan’s anti-colonial struggles to liberate the colonized from the colonialists at a time when such struggles were sweeping colonies around the world. And for this he should be duly recognized, even if with an Order of Liberation award, now the highest national award in Guyana.

Torture, bloodshed and ethnic exclusion in Guyana

I hear the words of Martin Carter echo in shadows of death!

By Rickford Burke

President, Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy (CGID)

The history of civilization is mottled with catastrophes and carnages which have placed entire peoples in peril of extinction. Slavery or the “Maafa” is the most evil atrocity known to man. Scholars of African history instruct that 50 to 100 million Africans were killed or abducted in the slave trade; the majority being men. This decimation of the African civilization was a manifestation of inhumanity and hate; symptoms of which have today burgeoned into other evils. Racism, ethnic cleansing, ethnic torture and genocide have gained primacy as apoplectic winds of hate fuel a recycling of history. Read the rest of this entry »

President Bharrat Jagdeo what is the Order of Liberation?

with 3 comments

Dear Editor,

I read with keen interest an article in the Stabroek News of December 19, 2007 titled “Order of Liberation awarded to Dr Jagan.”

It reported that on December 18, 2007 President Bharrat Jagdeo awarded a posthumous Order of Liberation to Dr Cheddi Jagan, for his role in restoring democracy to Guyana. I also read other press reports which state that this Order of Liberation is the nation’s highest National Award.

without comments

BOGOTA, Colombia - Colombian rebels will hand over three hostages to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, including an aide to former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt and the woman’s young son, according to a statement released Tuesday.

Chavez, at a summit in Uruguay, called the pledge by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, a “nice Christmas present” but noted: “They are in the middle of the jungle and I can’t go and receive them personally, even if I wanted to.”

Kellawan Lall, criminal psychopath, responds to Stabroek News

with one comment

Dear Editor,

I have noted with disgust the unending campaign by Stabroek News to vilify me in public. In doing so, it has utilized elements of disinformation, lies, half-truths, innuendoes and deception. In the process, I have been slandered and libeled. Now I have noticed an attempt to ensnare the unsuspecting public into its ugly scheme. The paper has peddled so many lies over a period of time that it is beginning to believe them to be real and offering same to the public as the gospel truth.
