Buddy’s Hotel has been considerate with Gov’t

The government was given special consideration by Buddy’s Hotel International where it was given room nights in the future for rooms that were not occupied during Cricket World Cup (CWC) in Guyana.
            President Bharrat Jagdeo made this disclosure during a press conference at the Office of the President yesterday.
            “They were not obligated to give us these rooms for use after Cricket World Cup but nevertheless they granted the concession,” President Jagdeo said.
            He said the use of the room nights as repayment of an advance to the hotel was not a part of the agreement, but it was arrived at subsequently.
            Two members of the Opposition had claimed that the room nights for future use would create unfair competition for others in the hotel industry.
            The President said, “Their conclusion on the issue is foolish, ill-thought and senseless”.
            President Jagdeo reiterated that if the government had not secured the rooms, Guyana would not have been able to host the Super Eight matches and Buddy’s could have sold the rooms to anyone.
            “We were very fortunate to get the hotelier to agree that all the rooms we could not fill in that period, we would take additional rooms and use in the future,” the Head of State said.
            Government had granted Buddy’s a loan in the sum of $168 million and Casique’s the sum of $30 million.
