Hip-Hop Debate & Talent Showcase
Sunday, June 17th - Doors open at 2pm
Langston Hughes

Check out today’s Seattle Times article on our Hip-Hop Debate program:

For the past two months I have had the honor of partnering with the Seattle Debate Foundation to work with a group of very talented young sisters and brothers in the Hip-Hop Debate program at Langston Hughes.  The youth have been introduced to a number of issues facing our community and world including institutionalized racism, inadequate education, War, gentrification and youth crime and violence.  The youth then created arguments both through poetry and hip-hop songs (performative debate) and speeches.

On Sunday, June 17th at Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Center these youth will be showcasing their talents.  Please come out and support these young people as they speak their truth and give hope for a better future.  With all the negative attention on hip-hop and Black youth, this is an excellent opportunity to see the true spirit of Hip-Hop and positive youthful energy as a positive force building our community.

This is an all ages event that also honors Father’s Day.  There will be live performances, food, DJ’s, face-painting for children and more.  Admission is free but donations are accepted.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend.

Langston Hughes is located on 17th and Yesler (104 17th Ave S, Seattle,
98144).

SNEAK PREVIEW!!! Check out the video clips below to see some of the youth prepare for the event:
