Burundi, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo & Uganda join forces to fight rebels
Four central African armies have agreed to join forces to take action against rebel groups they say are destabilising the region. The decisionfollowed a one day meeting held by army chiefs from Burundi, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda. They resolved to take joint military action against what they described as “negative forces” especially Rwandan rebels still active in the DRC. The Great Lakes area, which includes the four countries, has been beset by wars since Rwanda’s 1994 genocide.
