China to invest 12.9 billion US dollars in Tibet by 2010
China says it will invest more than 12.9 billion US dollars in Tibet by 2010. The money will be spread across 180 projects. The region’s vice chairman says they aim to connect 80 per cent of Tibet’s villages by road,
to provide safe drinking water for all and free education up to highschool for all children. Tibet, which was occupied by China in 1950, remains one of China’s most underdeveloped regions.
