Gaumatie Singh is a practicing attorney today with chambers at lot 5 Avenue of the Republic Georgetown and also at lot 7 Suddie Essequibo. She was born on the 17th January 1956 in Mahaica, she went to the Helena Primary School in Mahaica and then the Mahaica Secondary school.

She started her working career as a teacher in 1975. Between 1976 - 1985 she worked as a School Librarian with Ministry of Education attached to the Mahaica Multilateral School and Bladen Hall Multilateral School.

Ms. Singh joined the staff of the Public Service Ministry in July 1985 as a Librarian 111.

In 1987 she left that Ministry and took up employment with the Guyana Manufacturing And Industrial Development Agency where she served as Librarian until 1989.

In 1990 Ms. Singh pursued studies at the University of Guyana and in 1992 she completed her LLB Part 1 and thereafter proceeded to work as Legal Clerk with K. Ramjattan and Associates.

In 1994 she joined the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus,Barbados to complete her law studies. Ms. Singh graduated with her Bachelor of Laws Degree from that University in 1996.

She completed her Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad in 1998.

Ms. Singh was admitted to practice law in Guyana in October 1998.

Gaumatie Singh is core member and one of the founders of the Alliance For Change political movement, and thinks that it is the vehicle that will propel Guyana into a new dispensation of economic and social progress.
