dead man lies in wheel chair after hurricane katrina

The body of a dead man rests on a lawn chair as other flood victims pass by at the Convention Center in New Orleans, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005. Outside the Convention Center, the sidewalks were packed with people without food, water or medical care, and with no sign of law enforcement. Thousands of storm refugees had been assembling outside for days, waiting for buses that did not come. (AP Photo/Eric Gay)

  1. That guy is not dead. He is passed out from being drunk. If you go there today he is probably still alive. I agree it is not cool that they did not evacuate people during Katrina and that they did not provide adequate help after all the millions the state of Louisiana alone pays in taxes you would think they would have done something. Ridiculous!

  4. I am definitely not being funny or attempting humor. He looks like he had quite a bit to drink. If you have ever been drunk yourself and passed out to awaken looking in the mirror then you will see this guy. The fact that this elderly man is passed out in a chair has nothing to do with the issue anyways. If you are going to try to prove a point with a picture this is not much evidence.

    you missed the point
a dead man on a lawn chair does not tell the story of hurricane Katrina and the govt treatment of African Americans in the aftermath?

  6. No because he is a passed out guy in a lawn chair. It is what it is and if you want to show specifics then you have to use images that are specific. All over the world there are people passed out in chairs and all over the world there are homeless that die in the streets. Everywhere there is sadness but if you want to pinpoint an area or an idea then you have to pinpoint the images that represent your statement.

Your reasoning is convoluted. How do you know the guy is not dead? How can you tell that he is drunk from a picture? That is the most imbecilic and ridiculous deduction I have been privy to in a while. There is absolutely no way of determining the reason behind a state of unconsciousness from a picture like that. Trying to convince someone with a question of whether they have ever been drunk is even more ludicrous.

shortee4204real you’re new to propaganda press and we welcome you, but that image was used in context

  9. Well I guess you have never been to bar or a barbecue party. I guess every old African American in a lawn chair with his head on the arm rest is dead. You should try driving through Arkansas. I guess all those guys and their wives are dead too.

This picture has nothing to do with Katrina and as somebody stated below…..”this foto is nothing”

  10. Well “resist” this photo was taken during the end of the storm not years afterwards. There were many people who lived in that area and within very close proximities and many to each home. The fact that they did not prepare for this even knowing that it was going to be the worst natural disaster in this country just tells you how much you cannot trust a complete stranger with a suit.

you’re missing all the points. the foto shows the so.called greatness of american society they love to talk about so much. it’s so great they leave people to die…and we have more fotos too, of people living under the bridges taken in 2008!
    are you big whitey’s spokesman?
“The fact that they did not prepare for this”? you blaming the victims now. comrade get a grip of yourself

and if you do read! you would’ve noticed below that foto there’s a caption that tells you all about the foto, when it was taken, where it was taken and what was taking place while it was taken

This is what is known as stereotyping, and from your use of this we can guess your make up. This is also pathetically inane. You can drive certain parts of Guyana and see Indians lying drunk in the roadway. Does that mean that any Indian photographed lying in the roadway is drunk.

There is nothing that breeds more ignorance than racial prejudice. In fact, many psychologist opine that groups in which this is prevalent have high incidents of individuals who have not developed beyond a concrete level of thinking. This cannot be more accurately exemplified than the image of a drunken PHD in the PPP screaming “awee pon tap”.

I don’t know what is your point, but your arguments are extremely limp and vaccuous. Your Arkansas reference also evidences a mindset nurtured in bottom house belief systems adjusted to make easy the transition from dalit to bramhin. Thank god for the freedom that allows any dick head to pontificate their ignorance for the world to see.

  13. Oh dear….Guyana is in South America. Thanks for your infamous “Indian” remark Christopher Columbus. Seems as though all that liquor you drank landed you into stupidity.

Oh no you can go to a White House after hours party and see people just like that as well.

This picture is what it is and as much as you attempted to sound anything but ignorant as you can see it was more proof of otherwise. Significantly more….sadly enough that is typical of any person who tries to justify their prejudice by trying to act like they care. Nobody prepared for this one. The residents knew as well; the fact is that they did not feel welcome or secure with help from this government and I would not have either. In fact I currently do not.

Enough old man. I tire of you easily. You are the folly of a fool and not even good enough to be a clown. How sad indeed.
