The Palestinian Authority is reported to owe the Israeli company Dor Energy about $26m. The company has been the sole provider of gasoline to Palestinian areas since the mid-1990s.
Congo hit by doctors’ strike
Johannesburg (AND) Medical doctors in the Democratic Republic of Congo have downed tools as they press ahead with their demand for a wage increase.
The 10-day protest action was launched on Monday, and according to media reports the striking doctors are only providing emergency care and refusing to accept patients for consultations.
 The doctors are also demanding that the government back pay their salaries, and in addition give them a raise of Cf20 000 (US$50) a month.
Wolfowitz’s battle against corruption raises eyebrows
‘The World Bank should adopt an approach that starts looking at itself,’ said Lidy Nacpil of Jubilee South, a network of activist groups demanding dept cancellation based in the Philippines. ‘That’s why we ask for a fully open audit of its activities.’
Wolfowitz’s approach ‘refuses to look at (the bank) itself about its role in perpetuating corruption through its lending conditionalities and corporate corruption,’ the group added.
Turkey still denying Armenian genocide
Turkey is urging its ambassadors to protest against France and Canada for describing the mass killings of Armenians by Turks in the 1900s as genocide. France is pushing for a bill which would make the denial of the Armenian genocide a crime and Turkey recently criticised Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper for remarks he made in support of recognising the mass killings as genocide. Turkey denies the killings of 1.5 Armenians in the early 1900s amounted to genocide, saying people died on both sides.
