“As I was telling my husb—†- Condi ‘never been married’ Rice
flashback April 2004 when Condi Rice referred to BUsh as her husband
Political Conversation: Condi’s Slip
A pressing issue of dinner-party etiquette is vexing Washington, according to a story now making the D.C. rounds … At a recent dinner party hosted by New York Times D.C. bureau chief Philip Taubman and his wife, Times reporter Felicity Barringer…Arthur Sulzberger Jr., Maureen Dowd, Steven Weisman, and Elisabeth Bumiller, Rice was reportedly overheard saying, “As I was telling my husb—†and then stopping herself abruptly, before saying, “As I was telling President Bush.†Jaws dropped, but a guest says the slip by the unmarried politician, who spends weekends with the president and his wife, seemed more psychologically telling than incriminating. Nobody thinks Bush and Rice are actually an item. A National Security Council spokesman laughed and said, “No comment.â€

Glorious Guyana: Where Arawaks survive
Travel BY WAYNE BOWEN Observer writer
Sunday, March 26, 2006
WHETHER the early Jamaicans were called Arawaks or Tainos depends on the books you read. But the more modern books mostly go with ‘Tainos,’ describing them as people speaking the Arawak language.
Almost every Jamaican knows that the half-naked couple featured on the country’s coat of arms represents these early Amerindian inhabitants. What few probably know though, is that their ancestors can still be found in the region - not in history books or museums, but alive and kicking - most notably in Guyana!
Chagos struggle update
Divide and rule
Exile is bitter bread, as writers have kept reminding us. The pains and sorrows the inhabitants of the Chagos experienced during their latest visit to their native place when they saw how deserted and abandoned their churchyards and churches were are perfectly understandable. All migrants shed tears when going back home. That is why they say there is no place like home. All immigrants have learnt this heart-rending lesson. But after decades of struggling for their personal and national rights, thanks to the quiet diplomacy of the present Mauritian government and the British judiciary, things have fortunately begun to look up for the islanders. And fortunately too both of their leaders Messrs Bancoult and Mandarin have not only paid tribute to the Prime Minister for putting the boat Trochetia at their disposal for their trip but reiterated their allegiance to the sovereign nation of Mauritius.
African Development Bank to write off debt of 13 countries
The African Development Bank is to write off the debt of 13 African countries totalling 8.54 billion dollars. Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Madagascar, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia will benefit from the move. The bank says the debt relief is intended to help alleviate poverty but also to stimulate economic growth and encourage governments to stay on track with reforms. In July last year the Group of Eight leading industrialised nations agreed to cancel the debts of 18 of the poorest countries owed to the World Bank, the IMF and the African Development Bank.

“The situation in Darfur has been going on far too long. It’s only getting worse.
