China orders tv broadcasters to stop using international news footage.
China’s top media body has ordered television broadcasters to stop using international news footage. New regulations posted on the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television’s website called for greater “political and propaganda discipline”. All stations were instructed to use only international news reports from China Central Television and China Radio International. The Chinese Ministry of Culture announced a new clampdown on foreign media in China last year. They stopped new foreign-owned television satellite channels from broadcasting in the country and banned Chinese television and radio stations from forming partnerships with foreign companies. The government said these measures were to ‘safeguard national cultural safety’.
