It is out of concern for the need to stay alive that i will opine this…. I think that the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Guyana Police Force should grant fire arm licenses to all practising journalists.
I think it is the responsibilty of the Guyana Press Assoctation to lobby on our behalf..or they can even discuss the modalaties at its monthly lunch time lecture series…

I share your concern leroy but how do we define who’s a journalist in this wild west we call guymedia?

Dear Madam President,
We have noticed that an astoundingly brilliant idea has surfaced on this mailing list with regard to the protection of local journalists.
We expect that you will immediately commence work to ensure that these amazingly stupendous plans come to fruition.
When they do, we would like to serve you with early notice that we would like to have license for an AK 47 and a Glock Tech 9.
Additionally we would also like a permit to carry a 22 cutlass, otherwise known as ‘kill-cuney’ and a grassknife.
We promise to always have the ‘kill-cuney’ and the grassknife wrapped in Guyana Chronicle to ensure our own safety and the safety of others nearby.
Kind regards,

I understand the concerns but sorry Leroy, I wouldn't recommend that you get a gun. If I were the government/President I'd use my authority to confiscate all guns - legally issued and illegal ones - and leave only the military with weapons. Less guns, less crime. Check out Switzerland. Miranda

Ok …..I admit that my idea for firearms for journalists was too far fetched.
But I think that in Guyana and the world over every one is entitle to his or her opinion. That idea came about after experiencing the recent upsurge killings and other development in Guyana, I am very fearful of going around certain scenes and reporting on matters. And certainly t this that my fears should be of concern to that fraternity. It would be a terrible thing though to wake up one morning and see a headline in the papers that a reporter got shot by gunmen.

I do recall that the issue of arming journalists came up at a GPA discussion in the past, and I am quite aware of the GPA’s position on the issue then.
But, I am very happy to see that forum like these, where people views can be appreciated and not laugh at.
And for the record…. working at Ch 6, and covering singers promotions have nothing to do with my intelligence or ability to write and report news fair and objectively.
