multi-national water pirates being forced to retreat. for now
A UN report says some of the world’s largest water companies are pulling out of developing countries because of growing doubts about privatisation projects. The report says some multinationals have been forced out of countries whilst others have left voluntarily as the issue of who should control water supplies becomes more politicised. A debate has been growing over whether water should be controlled by the government or by private companies. Recently there have been major demonstrations against European and American water companies in Bolivia, Malaysia, South Africa and Indonesia.
