Saudi Arabia has reversed an earlier decision to ban women from an upcoming international football match against Sweden to be held in Riyadh. Saudi officials reversed the ban after Sweden, one of the world’s leading nations on gender equality, complained. Usually women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to mix with men in public places. Large gatherings are restricted to men unless there is a separate accommodation for women, who are usually kept out of sight of men. The Saudi women will be seated in a separate area of the stadium at the match next Wednesday.
