Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha 32 years old
Dear Editor(Stabroek News),
Congratulations and greetings on the 32nd Anniversary of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha (GHDS) headed by Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud. This religious organisation was officially formed on the January 8, 1974. Among the founders of the Sabha are Pt Reepu Daman Persaud. Harry Ramdass, Delinchan Persaud, Sukhdeo Ramsaroop, Mohanlall Jerome Sahadeo, Rambarran, Mahase and five others. The only surviving founders of the Sabha are Pt. Reepu Daman Persaud and Harry Ramdass.
The GHDS has nurtured and educated Hindus in the various aspects of the religion, its culture, philosophy, arts, music. After Pt. Reepu Daman Persaud was unconstitutionally removed as General Secretary of the Guyana Sanataan Dharm Maha Sabha, he joined with a bunch of Hindu Stalwarts to form the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, which now has over 120 affiliated Mandirs (Temples) in 8 Regional Bodies (Praants) in Guyana.
The Sabha organised the Annual Diwali Motorcade, which attracts the largest crowd in Guyana, the Annual Phagwah Samalaan and its Mela and Bazaar and the Phagwah show at the Sanskrit Kendra in Prashad Nagar, its annual Kala Ustav where contestants representing various Mandirs in Guyana are allowed to display their skills in art form.
I wish to commend Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud, Dr. Vindi Persaud, Dr. Madan Rambarran and others for keeping the Sabha alive and well today and for promoting, maintaining and upkeeping the values of Hinduism in Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
Parmanand Sukhu
